The website « Following in the footsteps of Eratosthenes » includes:
In order to have access to the tools provided by the website, you have to be “identified”…and therefore you first need to register. The registering procedure is very simple and instantaneous. Once you have registered, you have to use your e-mail address and your password in order to be identified.
As soon as you are identified, you have access to the interactive functions of the website: community, blog, calendar, forum, images, postcards, measurements.
The “Community” tab allows you to get in touch with other members of the “Eratosthenes” project.
An interactive distribution map shows all the registered classes. You can for example find a class near from your own.
If you click on the red sign, you have access to the name and the address of the class. Additional information is available by clicking on the name of the class. You then reach a detailed presentation of the class and the “contact” button allows you to send an e-mail to the teacher.
All the registered members can send articles on the website’s blog.
The articles and the comments are checked by the administrator.
Writing a new article
Whenever you wish to share your experience, a piece of information or publish your pupils’ work, just click on the
button on the right side of the page.
Your article may contain a text, links, images, sound, or even a video!
The “agenda” tab enables us to announce event related to the “Eratosthenes” project. You may choose between the “calendar-view” (all the events of a month) and the “list- view” (from the most recent to the oldest event).
Any member of the project may announce an event likely to interest the community.
While the blog is a place to publish your results, the forum is rather a place of exchange, debate or suggestions. It is also the perfect place to ask all your scientific or teaching questions.
The “Main à la pâte” team will be delighted to give you an answer!

Posting a new message
To write a new message, you may click either on the title of an already existing subject or on “Nouveau sujet” (which means “new subject”). You may also attach a document to your message. The message will appear on the forum once the administrator has checked it.
When a new message is posted on the forum, all the members are informed by e-mail. If you do not wish to receive these e-mails, go to this page of the Main à la pâte website and untick the “eratos” forum: http://www.lamap.fr/?Page_Id=1177
Each class has its own image gallery, where it can send photos, drawings or diagrams, so as to share its work with the rest of the community.
The “Eratosthenes” project also has a “general” image gallery opened to anybody. You just have to click on the small picture if you want to see the large version.
As a memory of their work, the pupils are invited to create their own postcard, which may include a picture of their stick or their measures for example.
Each child may thus print this postcard-sized document and even send it to a partner class!

The exchange of measures is obviously the key aspect of the « Eratosthenes » project. It is thanks to this tab that the classes can share their results, thus allowing each other to deduce the circumference of the Earth.
